Area manager

Oversees a group of pubs, bars or restaurants, typically somewhere between eight and fifteen sites, supporting general managers and driving performance. The job is part coach, part auditor and part firefighter, translating head office plans into what actually happens on the floor. A good area manager is the reason strong GMs stay with a company.

A real shift

Plenty of driving between sites, often with a laptop open in the car park between visits. Days mix scheduled reviews of trading, standards and compliance with unplanned calls about staffing gaps, broken equipment or a poor inspection. Weekly reporting to head office and regular GM one-to-ones keep the patch on track.
