Operations director

Leads operations for a hospitality group, setting standards, systems and strategy across the estate. They own the operating model, from labour budgets and service steps to openings and refurbishments. The role sits on or close to the board and is where trading performance and company culture meet.

A real shift

A week might include trading reviews, board or investor meetings and planning new openings. Time in the sites matters, so good ops directors still work the floor regularly and talk to teams directly. Much of the job is solving cross-estate problems such as wage costs, supplier issues and recruitment.
