Jobs · Business and ownership

Owner-operator

Owns and runs an independent hospitality business, wearing every hat from host and buyer to bookkeeper and handyman. Independents give the UK scene much of its character, but margins are thin and costs from rent, energy, wages and business rates bite hard. Owners carry the legal responsibility too, from licensing and food hygiene to employment law.

A real shift

Opening up, checking deliveries and prep, then covering service wherever the gap is. Afternoons go on admin, rotas, supplier calls and accounts. Closing, cashing up and planning tomorrow often push the day long past midnight.
