Golf club steward

Runs the clubhouse bar and catering at a golf club, sometimes living on site and serving members and visiting societies. Many clubs are member-owned, so the steward answers to a committee and must balance tradition with the need to make money. Some clubs contract the catering out, so the role may be employed or run as a concession.

A real shift

Early starts for breakfasts before tee times, then bar and food service as rounds finish. Evenings and weekends bring competition presentations, society days, weddings and members' functions. Behind the scenes there are stock takes, licensing paperwork, staff rotas and regular reports to the house committee.
