Cruise ship crew (hotel department)

Works in hotel operations on cruise ships: restaurants, bars, cabins, guest services and entertainment. A large ship is effectively a floating resort hotel with a strict hierarchy and crews drawn from dozens of countries. Every crew member also has a muster station and safety duties alongside the service role.

A real shift

Contracts typically run for several months living on board, working seven days a week with split shifts around meal services and port calls. Time ashore is short and precious, and crew life below decks has its own bars, mess and social rules. Then comes an extended unpaid leave at home before the next contract.
