Hospitality in France

France is the cradle of classic restaurant culture, with bistros, brasseries and fine dining shaping global standards. Café terraces are part of daily life. Regional cuisines and wine culture are deeply embedded.

Tipping

Service is included by law in prices (service compris). Tipping is optional, often rounding up or leaving a few euros for good service.

Working there

Hospitality is covered by sector collective agreements with regulated working hours and minimum wage (SMIC). Seasonal work is common in tourism areas. Non-EU workers need permits, and some shortage roles have easier routes.

Rules on pay and visas change. Check official government guidance before you move.
