The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn's Law, places duties on certain public premises and events to prepare for terrorist attacks. It uses tiers based on expected capacity: standard-tier premises (roughly 200 to 799 people) must have proportionate procedures such as evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication, while enhanced-tier premises (800 and over) face further requirements.
The Act received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025 with an implementation period of at least 24 months, so the duties are expected to start no earlier than spring 2027, on a date the government will confirm; the Security Industry Authority is the regulator. Most venues will need training and simple written plans rather than expensive kit.
What we ask on the show
- Is your venue in scope?
- What does invacuation look like in a pub?
- Will Martyn's Law change how small venues operate?
